Marmaris in Mugla - Turkey is a bustling resort, perhaps the most European of the Turkish resorts. It´s built around a picturesque sweeping natural bay, at the foot of pine-covered mountain. Sandwiching the Old Quarter are to one side Netsel Marina, home to smart quayside restaurants, an open-air amphitheater cinema, and a marina housing majestic yachts. One look at the yachts in the harbor will tell you that Marmaris is truly a stylish and cosmopolitan resort. The old town is a maze of twisting narrow streets and alleys with small houses, in the Turkish style, witnesses of the history, and reaching back far in the ancient times, amid an excellent shopping bazaar. To the other side is the newer district of the resort where many of the featured properties are situated.


The resort is ideal for all kinds of sports, such as, sailing, surfing, horse riding, diving, or white water rafting. The long beach invites you to relax in the sun. Not to forget a stroll along the palm lined “Riviera” style promenade. On the other hand, why not visit one of the numerous nightspot or restaurants of the town. Shopping enthusiasts will find many good buys in Marmaris boutiques, colorful bazaars, and markets. There are a lot of beautiful spots to visit and little villages to see around Marmaris, so why not to explore a beautiful place.

History
The city of Marmaris, who was previously known as Physkos, lies where the Mediterranean sea and the Aegean sea meet. It is believed that the first settlement in that area, was about 3000 B.C. Marmaris with it’s surrounding covered pine trees hills, that starched all the way to the sea and it’s beautiful bays, makes Marmaris the crown jewel of Turkey.The city is part of the province of Mugla and is located at the south- west of Turkey. Marmaris is one of the biggest holiday resorts in Turkey. South of Marmaris is the Mediterranean sea. North of the city, is the gulf of Gokova. To the east lies the lake of Koyceiz and to the west of Marmaris, is the Datca peninsula.Mugla, the province’s capital, is about 60 k away from Marmaris. The road to Mugla goes up a 900m’ pine trees covered hill. Along the road there are some Vista Points from which you can look at the view below.

Geography
One look at the yachts in the harbor will tell you that Marmaris is a stylish and cosmopolitan resort. The coastline here, where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean, is perfect cruising country, dark blue seas giving way to shallow turquoise waters on hideaway beaches, while the mountains march inland. The City is situated in the southeast of turkey, nestled in the south of the Gokova Golf on the Resadiye Peninsula. The town is surrounded by sea on two sides. Marmaris shares borders with Datca in the west (opposite to Simi Island), Koycegiz in the east and Ula in the Northwest. Together with the villages, it has population of 25000. However, this number increases four times in the season between April and October.There are forests in the north and mountains with a maximum height of 1000 meter in the South of the region. The highest ranges of these mountains are Belan (1000m.) Malamut (890m.) and Mirzaettin (704m.). Typical Mediterranean plants such as pine forests, liquidambar trees, heath, and brushwood surround the area. The unspoiled nature makes it perfect for hiking and biking.
